What's New at Trans-Trade! Airline Passenger Safety Freight Forwarder places priority on airline passenger safety. Trans-Trade introduces private industry x-ray scanning for cargo carried on passenger flights. -- May 28, 2002 Grapevine, TX Passenger flight safety will be enhanced significantly if an initiative started by Trans-Trade, a Fort Worth/Dallas-based freight logistics firm, catches on. Trans-Trade uses a large-format cargo x-ray scanner to inspect freight shipments destined for the cargo holds of passendger flights. General airfreight is carried on virtually all domestic and international passenger flights. The increased focus on overall air travel security has heightened the potential risk of this practice. Federally mandated programs such as the "Known Shipper Program", which required freight logistics companies and carriers to verify the identities of their corporate customers, are an attenpt to provide auditable records for all freight. It is expected that the Transportation Security Agency (TSA), which was formed as result of the September 11th tragedies, will augment the Known Shipper Program with additional programs and procedures. Jeff Bell, Trans-Trade's President states, "Our industry has a responsibility to be thorough and proactive in its measures to keep passenger and cargo flights safe. We believe it is vitally important to take measures to improve the safety of all air travel. We can't expect the full burden of cargo security to fall on the shoulders of any single government body or industry group - it's our responsibility as Americans and business people to do whatever it takest o ensure the safety of the passengers and crews of all flights." Trans-Trade has purchased a Rapiscan 532H X-ray screeniung system that can accommodate palletized and individual items up to 60 in. wide by 65 in. long (1.52m x 1.65m). The Rapiscan 532H uses a powerful dual-scanning technique to provide multiple simultaneous views of the cargo. "It all begins at home," says Bell. "Responsible shippers, logistics firms and freight carriers should be motivated to take all actions necessary to enhance the safety of the world's skies. Trans-Trade's efforts are a start, but they will make little impact unless similar measures are adopted throughout the industry." ********************************************************************************************************* Trans-Trade, founded in 1984, is a world-class freight logistics company headquartered in Grapevine, Texas, adjacent to the DFW International Airport.
